A morning at the auction

I have a little confession to make…. I LOOOOOOVE going to thrift stores.  I get all giddy just thinking about heading over to Value Village or The Salvation Army.  But that excitement pales in comparison to how freakishly amazing it was to go to an estate auction on Saturday morning.  My friend Mary, who knows where all the good bargains are, initiated me to estate auctions about a month ago.   I am now officially hooked!  This particular auction on Saturday had tons of old goodies and I came home with a box full of incredible must-have-that-thingy-or-else-I-will-die treasures!!!

And here’s my haul:  First, these gorgeous tea cups!  Yes, tea cups!  I love tea, but drink it out of a big honkin’ mug, not a teeny tiny cup.  But look at the colours!  Of course, I had to have these!!  Clearly, I wasn’t the only one who had fallen in love. I had to outbid a few aggressive buyers for these babies.  I ended up paying $40 for them, which is WAAAAAY more than what I had in mind, but I have no regrets.  Shhhhtttt…. Nobody tell Chaughan!

I have an idea of how I’ll be displaying these tea cups. Stay tuned for that one…

Let me introduce you to my new camera!  Ok, so it’s not exactly new… but isn’t it the cutest thing ever?  Post WWII baby! Got it for $25.  I checked out Wikipedia when I got home and it’s value is somewhere between $5-$25.  Ok, so I won’t be able to retire with this antique, but at least I didn’t pay a crazy price, well, sort of.  Don’t judge…

I have this thing for milk glass so I shrieked when I saw these hobnail beauties sitting there.  Best part is that there was barely any competition for these.  Clearly they were lacking vision. Got the lot for $10, woohoo!!!

And my last purchase, these retro amber cups.  $7!  Drink anyone?

Here’s the auctioneer in full swing.  So fun!  Just like the movies, he talks a mile a minute and people hold up their number when they want to place a bid.

Here are a few more things that I thought were kind of cool but didn’t get to bring home with me…

There was an awesome church pew as well.  I wanted to take a picture but three people were sitting on it and they were looking at me like “Move on honey, this is OUR bench”.   I guess they were staking they claim. Now how cool would it be to own a church pew!  No idea what I would do with it… I has to be pretty uncomfortable, no? But oh, it would be cool…
